The original house, c1800 with 4 bedrooms on the ground floor & 2 in the exposed oak-beamed
loft. The old front door remains but a new entrance was created during major renovation in 2004/5
 On the west coast between the vineyards of Bordeaux and the châteaux of the Loire Valley,
lies Charente-Maritime. Its mild climate (with 2,250 hours of sunshine p.a it is 2nd only to the South of France) make
it an attractive place to visit from early spring to late autumn. 300 miles of coastline, fine sandy beaches
backed by fragrant pine forests and lively resorts. La Rochelle, Royan and the islands of Oléron, Aix and Ré provide year
round interest. Inland, there are vast horizons and wooded valleys, the Poitou fens and Marais Poitevin, the tranquil
canals, the valley of Vienne, the foothills of the Charente its rivers & naturally the vineyards at Cognac
Nearly an acre of garden at the side & rear of the house with a tree
swing, brand new 10 x 5m pool with impact alarm, beautiful views & plenty of space to run around (see
below) - there is a modern fully fitted kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher (above right) -
cycles & rackets are available for hire and there are a host of free facilities on hand
5km from the historical market town Cozes (see Directions/Map ) & even closer to St Andre de Lidon (famous for Chateau Deau - Pineau) surrounded by farmland dedicated
to vines, maize, sunflowers and wheat. An activity base or rural retreat, with a recent traditionally
built modern extension (below) combined with the charm of a 200 year old Charentaise style house
& a self contained gite/annexe (see bottom right of page) .
